Source: Wrestling Observer Newsletter Former ECW Heavyweight champion Steve Corino recently got a letter from WWE’s legal department telling him to stop using the name “The King Of Old School”, because WWE has trademarked the phrase “old school” for anything to do with pro wrestling. Corino has been using the name "The King of Old School" since his run in ECW in the late 90’s/early 2000’s. He responded to the issue on his MySpace page with the following: "A lot of fans have been asking me and leaving me My Space comments on the WWE owning the rights to the moniker. To be honest with you it doesn't matter to me. I have been the "Trouble King" in Japan for years because I have been a sneaky heel. I have never been the "King Of Old School" here because it is a hard translation. The King of Old School name would register under (if I am right) intellectual property of ECW (which of course WWE Corporation owns). They did not take it from me. In fact they have done right by me regarding the name. The problem with the name would lie if I signed a contract with TNA or WSX (national TV companies in the USA) and tried to use it. Since I have no plans on either they don't bother me. In fact I have the "King Of Old School" on my ring jacket (I will be getting a new one soon though with Trouble King on it) and no one says anything. The WWE could take anything they want from me except my name (since I wasn't original enough to think of a gimmick name) and at this stage of my career why would they bother doing anything to me? Although they could give me a job as a writer (hint hint, I would love to be able to write the ECW show) but I think I pissed in someone Cheerios long ago so I don't see that happening! LOL. I do appreciate the fans support and dedication though. Its touching to know that people still do care." Corino also recently announced that he will be retiring at the end of 2007. While this isn’t the first time he has announced his retirement only to come back, he cites his recurring knee and hip issues as the reason for hanging his boots up for good. WWE, always going and suing people for the dumbest of reasons. I guess Vince's wallet must be a little on the light side so he has to go after Corino's nickname...... meh.... to me, Corino will ALWAYS be the "King of Oldschool" Current Mood: blah Current Music: Disasterpiece by Slipknot

February 19th, 200712:39 pm: Mike Awesome Passes Away.
The following story was posted by WWE.com today: Mike Awesome passes away Written: February 19, 2007 WWE is saddened by news of the passing of Mike Alfonso, better known to wrestling fans as Mike Awesome. He was 42. Mike Awesome's first major exposure came overseas, where he became one of the Japan's top stars. Awesome would eventually become a star and champion in America while wrestling for Extreme Championship Wrestling. Following his successful run in ECW, Awesome spent time working in WCW and later WWE before retiring to his native Tampa, Florida. While in ECW, Awesome was a two-time World Champion and Tag Team Champion. His matches with Masato Tanaka, including a show-stealer at One Night Stand in 2005 were among the most memorable in ECW history. R.I.P. Mike Awesome, I give my respect to all his family, friends, and former co-workers. Current Mood: sad Current Music: What Drives The Weak? by Shadows Fall

January 29th, 200703:01 pm: News on RVD and his WWE Status.
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter The company is going all out to sign up RVD. Not because they want to keep him particularly, but just to stop him going to TNA. RVD though gives the impression that he's as good as gone. Before the 1/16 show Vince and John Laurinaitis made a big speech about Sylvan being arrested for speeding as he was trying to get back from the gym to a show and as a result of that the boys are no longer allowed to go to the gym after checking in at the building. RVD then said, in front of Vince to Johnny 'Ace' Laurinaitis and in a very mocking tone "Johnny, can we go to the gym before we come to building?" January 28th, 200703:33 pm: Answers to my Interview.
I was interviewed by sweetrapture821) Why did you start watching wrestling? I got into wrestling because I was a huge Raven fan during the old ECW, his feud with Tommy Dreamer was something I have never seen before, a feud where they were kids fighting over a girl, they grew up and fought in the same promotion. I just loved it, and I have watched wrestling ever since. 2) Do you have a favorite author? I am into a lot of Tom Clancy books, plus his video games are awesome as well such as "Rainbow Six" Mick Foley is also a great author :P 3) What are your favorite bands? Oh man, too many to list: Korn, AFI, Alter Bridge, Staind, P.O.D., Slipknot, Stone Sour, Insane Clown Posse, Crazy Town, The Offspring, Kittie, Orgy, Adema, Linkin Park, Godsmack, Disturbed, Flaw, Ill Nino, Metallica, Deftones... ect...ect... 4) What's the worst television show you've watched? Currently, Family Guy, I hate that show. 5) Who is the worst wrestler in the WWE? Right now, I would have to say The Miz and Great Khali Current Mood: thoughtful Current Music: "Home" by Staind
03:25 pm: Oh joy Vince does it again and news on CM Punk.
Source: The Wrestling Observer Newsletter CM Punk's push is now completely dead. Almost nobody backstage likes him as they feel he's got an attitude that only the top guys should have. If he was a "top guy" like Kevin Nash people would think his comments were funny and cool, but as he's not a main eventer he's got an attitude problem. He won't be cut however as there is concern that he could become a star in TNA. There are plans to bring in mini's dressed as Vince and Donald Trump. Great, midegts, WWE is still going downhill. How people don't like CM Punk is beyond me, he is right now the best thing going on in ECW along with RVD, but WWE is not going to push either of them, I think that both should go to TNA where they can get the push they both deserve. January 27th, 200701:48 pm: More Bad News for CM Punk and Batista.
CM Punk now has heat for "'excessively making out with Maria" according to a source when they were in Iraq, as well as what he usually has heat for. We've noted that stuff here on the site before. Big Dave Batista isn't popular with the boys backstage. They feel he's got no passion for the business and is just a body who can't work and who's still coasting on his HHH angle. First let's start with Punk. How is what he is doing with Maria a problem? I would understand if he started missing matches because he was too busy with Maria, but it just sounds like people are looking for reasons to bash CM Punk these days, this reason just takes the cake. I mean for anyone in a relationship, I guess if you make out too much, you will get in trouble for it, I better tell my girlfriend this. Now for Batista, why is heeven champion if he isn't even trying? He needs to let the HHH thing go and focus on making SD an enjoyable show. If he has lost all his passion, then he needs to quit the business simple as that, or he needs to stop moaning like a bitch and get his shit together, otherwise Vince is just wasting money paying a guy who half-asses his way through matches, is this a guy you want representing the WWE as one of the champions? I would think not. Current Mood: annoyed Current Music: "Tattered and Torn" by Slipknot

01:53 pm: Tragedy strikes the Ring Of Honor community today.
Doug Gentry, 34, a former CEO and President of Ring of Honor has passed away. Gentry took over the reigns of ROH in 2004, when Rob Feinstein stepped down due to allegations against him involving a media sting operation. It was recently learned that Gentry was suffering from heart disease and was in need of a replacement heart valve. He suffered a severe heart attack at about 3 a.m. last night that proved to be fatal. Gentry was the on-paper owner of ROH and RF Video after the Feinstein scandal. When Cary Silkin purchased the complete ownership of ROH from Gentry, who Feinstein transferred his stock to, he was no longer part of the company. It's safe to way ROH would never be what it is today without him. Gentry and Feinstein remained working together with RF Video until his death. I would like to extend my deepest condolences to the friends and family of Mr. Gentry. R.I.P. Doug Gentry, you will truly be missed Current Mood: sad Current Music: "Execute The Sounds" by P.O.D.
01:34 pm: The Fate of TNA Revealed, The Good and Bad.
Angle on Bubba Highlight Points: - He makes more money with TNA than WWE. - Dixie Carter is a better business person than Vince McMahon could ever be. - TNA had their highest rating ever last week and that their ratings are better than Smackdown (?) and ECW. - Hopes to have Big Show and Hogan in TNA and said Big Show was the hardest worker in WWE and Vince did not appreciate him. - Nash cannot wrestle for a year and he would like to have him wrestle when he is ready. - There are rumors about Jericho coming in. - He talked to a doctor about Vince and Vince "looks like a heart-attack waiting to happen". - WWE got their business deal with China because of him. He then clarified he passed a number onto Shane and he never received credit. - HHH is a "slimeball" but has great ideas and great psychology and will be best for WWE after he retires. - Again stated TNA had a 1.5 last week and beat Smackdown (?). - Hogan, Goldberg might come in and then they will beat RAW. - The three top free-agents for TNA are Hogan, Show and Jericho. - Test is a multi-millionaire from real estate. - Jericho was drunk and started a fight with Test in WWE and held his own. - Test has nothing wrong with him and should have been pushed better. - He brought Bobby Lashley into Pro Wrestling. - Christian needs to change to be a true heel and that is what they (Angle and TNA) are doing with him and that he hopes Christian has a long run as champ, but needs to change his style and take direction better. Angle will have a match of the year with him soon. - He does not know if he is a babyface or not currently in TNA, but likes his character. - He is doing commercials for Bald Guys - a grooming company with shampoo for bald men. - Undertaker stiffed him in the ring after Kurt told him he did not understand the "carny speak" in the ring during their first match. - Talked briefly about his concussion and said he has no idea how the Iron Man match wound up being that good. He apologized to Samoa Joe and claimed Joe will take a month off soon because of injuries. - He had a 5-star match with Hogan at King of the Ring and said he has a lot of respect for Hogan. - Admitted he is an agent and writer and said if Big Show comes in, he would be undefeated and Kurt would make sure of that. - Talked about his heat with Shawn Michaels over the fact Michaels did not go to Smackdown when asked. He claimed that McMahon lied when he said Angle was his top choice to switch brands. He then admitted that Michaels was the one that said he would put over Angle at WM. This was right after he said Michaels did not put people over. - RVD admitted to Angle that he had no idea how to work and that he only hits highspots and points to himself and says "RVD". - He wants Bubba as a manager in TNA. - He wants Tito Ortiz on the phone next week live on Bubba's show to talk to him about fighting. During the course of the conversation, Bubba claimed: - Hulk Hogan told him Dixie had her shit together and her backers could buy & sell Vince ten times over. - Hogan has talked with Dixie Carter about coming in. - Turner/WCW went with well known names to combat Vince and how TNA should do that. Angle agreed. - He and Kurt should put the Hogan/TNA deal in motion. - He will contact Dixie about making TNA appearances. Hogan in TNA = BAD, VERY VERY VERY BAD. AllHipHop.com is carrying an article about rapper Mele Mel planning to become a member of World Wrestling Entertainment as a wrestler. "I'm going to try and get some of John Cena's money and get with the WWE to do my thing," Mele Mel told AllHipHop.com. "I went to the wrestling school over the summer and picked up a little bit of moves. I wanted to see if it was something that I wanted to do, other than just dreaming of wanting to be a wrestler. It's a little rough, but it's something that can be done." WTF is this crap? Didn't WCW try to do something like this with that Master P guy? All I know is with WWE doing the K-Fed shit, and the Donald Trump stuff, this just adds to WWE's stupidity, mainly Vince Mcmahon. 12:52 pm: WWE is still not making any sense.
Boxing great Muhammad Ali now lives in the Detroit Area, so it wouldn't surprise me if WWE decided to induct him into the hall of fame. WTF,how is this wrestling related? I mean, I understand that William Perry aka the Refrigerator is in the HOF, but he was in the battle royal years ago, what has Ali done? I respect him as a boxer and all that, but before you know it, WWE will induct Drew Carey into the HOF because he was in the Royal Rumble a few years back. It's also bad enough they decided to put Pete Rose in the HOF..... WWE you are just spiraling downhill, and it's not good either. Also, the ECW main event sucked ass, if that is how Lashley vs Test is goingto be at the Rumble, no point in buying it just to see that crap again. I am sorry, but this whole title feud with these two sucks, it has no build up, hardly any hype, plus they have no chemistry in the ring. It's just painful to watch, just shows you why ECW is sinking very very fast. Current Mood: annoyed Current Music: Cars blowing up in Twisted Metal Black
January 23rd, 200701:55 pm: Royal Rumble Predictions.
So the Rumble is upon us and we get the first peak at what Wrestlemania 23 is going to look like in a few months. Here are my picks as usual: The Hardy Boyz v. MNM-- I’m fully expecting MNM to go over here. They’ve been jobbing their pants off to both Matt and Jeff for a while now and it’s time to give these two a push on their respective shows. Nitro is probably in a bigger slump than anyone right now and Mercury is coming back and could use some momentum. This should be a very entertaining match though and we’ll get some good old fashioned, real tag team wrestling. PROJECTED WINNER: MNM via pin fall ECW World Championship Lashley v. Test-- I’m really at a loss for words to describe how uninterested I am in this match in general. It makes perfect sense as I think Test is probably the best call at this point, but there’s just no ‘buzz’ around the match itself. I’m fully expecting Lashley to retain his belt, but ECW is hard to call when there aren’t a lot of pay per views and no real sensible build from one thing to the next. I’ll say Lashley gets the win here. PROJECTED WINNER: Lashley via pin fall World Heavyweight Championship Batista v. Mr. Kennedy-- Kennedy’s got absolutely no shot in this match. None, whatsoever. It’s all about giving Kennedy the rub of being in a World Championship feud to set him up for a high profile match at Wrestlemania. I’m figuring he gets the win here by DQ to set up for a No Way Out rematch between the two where we get some play between Taker and Batista. I’ll go out on a limb and give Kennedy the win, but only by DQ. PROJECTED WINNER: Kennedy via DQ WWE Championship—Last Man Standing Match John Cena v. Umaga-- This feud has lost a ton of steam despite some pretty good work from both guys. With Umaga losing the first match, it kind of deflated the whole “Can Cena really beat him”? Aura the feud had to begin with. Add in Khali taking away from Umaga’s monster status on the show and it really doesn’t have much left. I’m expecting Cena to retain, although I wouldn’t rule out a possible swerve. I’m not a gambling man on this one though, so I’ll go with Cena. PROJECTED WINNER: John Cena 30-Man Royal Rumble, with the winner earning a title match at WrestleMania. Participants: Raw Viscera Shelton Benjamin Johnny Nitro Jeff Hardy Chris Masters Kenny Dykstra Ric Flair Carlito Shawn Michaels Edge Randy Orton Super Crazy The Great Khali Smackdown Chris Benoit MVP Matt Hardy Mike the Miz Chavo Guerrero Finlay The Undertaker Kane King Booker Gregory Helms ECW CM Punk Sabu Sandman Rob Van Dam Bob Holly Tommy Dreamer Kevin Thorn 30-Man Royal Rumble Match-- I think at this point, it’s a safe bet it’s going to either be Shawn Michaels or the Undertaker that win this thing, although I’m probably more likely to pick Taker based solely on the fact he hasn’t won this thing before. I see Orton and Edge canceling each other out. CM Punk isn’t far enough along yet. Chris Benoit is in no position to win while King Booker is ‘been there, done that’. RVD’s a pot head and wont’ ever get a serious push so long as he’s in the WWE ever again. With Umaga and Kennedy being the only other two viable options in title matches, the only other guy I could make even a remote case for at this point would be The Great Khali, but he seems headed for a match up with Hulk Hogan. So that really leaves HBK and Taker as the only viable options. Michaels is bat-sh!t over at this point and is wrestling as well as he has in forever. Taker hasn’t been too shabby himself and with a possible match up with Batista looming, you can bet WWE is going to want to make it HUGE. Taker hasn’t won this thing and Michaels has won it twice. So on that alone, I’m going with Taker, although I fully expect to see HBK-Cena at Wrestlemania as well. PROJECTED WINNER: The Undertaker Current Mood: calm Current Music: "Speak" by Godsmack
January 22nd, 200704:01 pm: Has WWE Finally lost it?
The latest word is that Donald Trump will be working with WWE soon and will be involved with the company at WrestleMania. Joy, now we have to deal with more pointless segments.... where did the wrestling go.... where? It gets worse though.... E! is reporting that Kevin Federline could be brought back to WWE in a regular role. Everyone in WWE was impressed with Federline during his last stint and Federline actually went out of his way to try and get along with the other wrestlers. Great, not only do we have to deal with Trump on WWE, we might have to deal with K-Fed all over again, calling us all "posers" and people saying his album is a "masterpiece" and Vince wonders why the RAW ratings drop all the time, there is your answer, lame ass segments and less wrestling.
